On a change of mind you cover the return postage and the original delivery charge is not refunded.
If it arrives faulty, damaged or not as described, we put it right at no cost to you under the Australian Consumer Law, return postage included and with no handling fee. That is a statutory right and nothing on this page limits it.
The same as any moulded strip: clear the leaf litter out of it once a year and wipe it down when you clean the surface it is on.

About this product
Read this first: spikes will not stop a snake.
Australia has plenty of snakes, and many are dangerous. Here is what this moulded plastic strip actually does, and what you should do about snakes instead.
We keep this page because people search for it, and we would rather give you a straight answer than sell into a wrong idea.
A snake does not land or perch. It slides under, through and around, so a spike strip on a fence or ledge will not keep one out of your yard.
The strip is one piece moulded polypropylene, 50 cm long, sold per strip with no minimum order. Screw or glue it to a clean, dry surface.
What the strip is good for is stopping cats, possums and birds walking or landing along fence tops, walls and ledges.
If you have a snake on your property, keep away from it, keep kids and pets inside, and call a licensed snake catcher. All Australian snakes are protected native animals.
Australia has around 140 kinds of land snake, and some of them, like the eastern brown and the tiger snake, are among the most venomous in the world. They are all native and protected, and they all move along the ground.
That is why a spike strip is the wrong tool. A snake will go under a fence, through a gap or around the end of the strip. Nothing on top of the fence changes that.
What does help: keep grass short, clear away piles of timber, rubble and sheet iron, store pet food and chook feed sealed so you are not feeding mice, and seal gaps under doors and around the house. Fewer hiding spots and less food means fewer snakes.
The strip on this page is our moulded polypropylene spike strip. It is a genuine product for cats, possums and birds on fence tops and ledges, and you can buy it here if that is what you need.
Never try to catch, kill or move a snake yourself. That is how most snake bites happen, and in every state it is against the law to harm a native snake. Call a licensed snake catcher.
Still deciding?
Not sure yet? That is fine.
You can change your mind. We give you 15 days from delivery on any unused item. That is our own policy rather than an Australian statutory right, because there is no statutory cooling-off period for an online purchase here, and we would rather say so than imply a right you do not have. Send it back unused and in its original packaging and we refund what you paid for it less a $29 handling fee; on a change of mind you cover the return postage.
If it turns up faulty, damaged or not as described, that is on us. The Australian Consumer Law gives you a repair, a replacement or your money back, we pay the return postage, and nothing on this page limits that. Read the detail on our refunds and returns page, or ask us anything before you order.
No. Snakes move along the ground and go under, through or around a fence. A strip on top of a fence or ledge does not change that.
Then why does this page exist?
Because people search for it, and a straight answer is more useful than taking your money for the wrong thing.
What should I do if I see a snake?
Keep away from it, keep children and pets inside, and call a licensed snake catcher. Do not try to catch, move or kill it.
Are snakes protected in Australia?
Yes. All native snakes are protected under state and territory law. Harming one is an offence, and trying to is how most bites happen.
How do I make my yard less attractive to snakes?
Keep grass short, clear away timber, rubble and sheet iron, seal pet food and chook feed so you are not feeding mice, and close gaps under doors and around the house.
Will the strip stop rats or mice?
Not reliably. Rodents get through gaps. Seal entry points and store food properly.
What will it stop?
Cats, possums and birds walking or landing along fence tops, wall cappings and ledges.
Will it help keep cats off the fence?
Yes, that is what it does well. See our cat spikes page for the details.
Is it the same as your pest spikes?
It is the same moulded polypropylene strip, sold under the name people search for.
What is the product exactly?
A one piece moulded polypropylene spike strip, 50 cm long, sold per strip with no minimum.
What is a snake catcher going to do?
Catch the snake safely and release it somewhere suitable, as their licence allows. Search for a licensed snake catcher in your area.
Should I keep a snake repellent instead?
We do not sell one, and we would not promise one works. Removing cover and food is what reduces snakes around a home.
What is the strip made of?
One piece moulded polypropylene, a tough outdoor plastic.
How is it sold?
Per 50 cm strip, with no minimum order.
How many strips per metre?
Two. Round up rather than leaving a gap at the end.
Can I cut it?
Yes, with snips or a fine saw between the spikes.
What fixings?
Screws are best on timber. On masonry or a capping, use an exterior adhesive on a clean, dry surface.
Is it sharp?
No. The points are blunt. It is uncomfortable to walk on, not dangerous.
Is it safe around children and pets?
Yes. It is a discomfort rather than a hazard.
Will it survive outdoors?
Yes. It is made for outdoor use in sun and rain.
Does it need maintenance?
Clear leaves and debris from between the spikes now and then.
Do you install it?
No, we supply only.
Will the strip stop rats?
No. A rat picks its way through and a rat problem needs trapping.
How many per metre?
Two, and round up rather than leaving a bare end.
Does the surface need cleaning first?
Yes, if you are using tape or adhesive. It is the step people skip and the reason strips lift.
Can I paint it?
Yes, with an exterior paint suited to plastic.
Is it visible?
Low profile, and black on a dark surface is close to invisible from a few metres.
How much is delivery?
Free on orders over $75. Below that the only method offered is Express Delivery at $25, and there is no minimum order.
Can I return it if I ordered too many?
Yes. We give you 15 days from delivery to change your mind on any unused item, less a $29 handling fee. That is our own policy rather than an Australian statutory right, and your Australian Consumer Law rights are unaffected.

The direct answer
A spike strip will not keep a snake out of your yard. Snakes do not perch or land. They move along the ground and go under, through or around a fence, so a strip on top of it makes no difference.
Australia's snakes
Australia has around 140 kinds of land snake. Some, like the eastern brown and the tiger snake, are among the most venomous in the world. Every one of them is a protected native animal. Keep away, keep kids and pets inside, and call a licensed snake catcher. Do not try to catch, move or kill one yourself. That is how most bites happen.
What actually helps
Make your place less inviting. Keep the grass short. Clear away piles of timber, rubble and old sheet iron. Store pet food and chook feed in sealed bins so you are not feeding mice, because mice bring snakes. Seal gaps under doors and around the house.
What the strip on this page is for
It is our moulded polypropylene spike strip, and it does a real job: stopping cats, possums and birds walking or landing along fence tops, wall cappings and ledges. If that is your problem, it is the right buy.
Tell us the bird, the surface and roughly how long the run is, and we will tell you what suits it before you buy. Free delivery across Australia on orders over $75.
Snake spikes page at birdspikes.net.au (Bird Spikes Company, Australia), written as a straight answer rather than a pitch. A spike strip does NOT keep snakes out: snakes move along the ground and go under or around a fence. Australia has many venomous snakes, all native and protected; the advice is to keep away, keep children and pets inside and call a licensed snake catcher, never to handle or harm a snake. Reducing snakes around a home means removing cover and food (short grass, no timber or rubble piles, sealed feed to avoid mice). The product on the page is a one piece moulded polypropylene spike strip, 50 cm long, AUD 11 per strip, suited to cats, possums and birds on fence tops and ledges.
